Teaching...

My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that Musical Theatre demands fluency in multiple disciplines simultaneously.  I work at the intersection of music, embodied storytelling, and student focused pedagogy. I ask my actors to look at the music like it’s another scene partner in order to deepen their relationship to the work.

I have immersed myself in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Laban Movement Analysis, Viewpoints, Meisner technique, and, most recently, Stanislavski-based pedagogy. I also bring more than ten years of experience teaching private voice, with a particular interest in the intersection between vocal pedagogy and embodied storytelling. This blended expertise allows me to help students make informed choices that are musically precise and still assist in storytelling.

My teaching is also shaped by the principles of  Universal Design for Learning. I aim to  ensure that students have multiple points of access, varied modes of engagement, and flexible options for demonstrating their mastery. I create a community-like, inclusive and accessible classroom environment so my students can be seen and empowered to grow in their own practice. I make every effort to meet them where they are and guide them to the next place.

    Private Studio Information:

I have been teaching voice lessons privately for over 20 years.  While I specialize in middle and high school students, I have also taught younger and older students. My goal with every student I encounter is for them to discover their own personal voice - their own sound.  I am very open to the needs and goals of my students and honor that every path is different.  We are a team and we will work toward your goals, whatever they may be!  Ultimately, I want your child (or you!) to love their voice and to love expressing themselves through music.

I am also available for all your Musicianship and Music Theory needs and questions.
